“Simply the best!”

That was the theme of Spinnaker’s 20 October 2026 meeting – being simply the best, in every way possible.

Rach chaired the one hour meeting and kept tightly to time, warning everyone at the beginning that timing was crucial. After supper, Katina chaired an Evaluation Workshop, aiming to take the club evaluations from “good to great”.

Rach was also voted as having given the best contribution to the night (see photo below.)

In general business, Katina led the vote for our newest member Josefine and presented her new member pack and certificate (see photo below). Josefine comes to Spinnaker with vast experience as a traveller, and now is a full time worker and mum to two toddlers. She is Danish by birth but grew up in beautiful Italy by the sea. She moved to New Zealand in 2019 following her Kiwi husband, after 12 years travelling the seven seas. She aims to improve her public speaking and communication skills at Spinnaker. Welcome Josefine to Spinnaker, we hope you enjoy your time with us.

Sonya gave her first official speech tonight, an icebreaker entitled “A place of memories”. Sonya described how the club’s venue, the St Andrew’s Church Hall, was a special place for her over the years, from visiting with her own children, to a workplace, as a volunteer and for meetings. We love our meeting venue too!

First time as timekeeper was Kane who managed to ring the bell at least once!

Table Topics run by Dieter was – choose a country, and choose an event – match them up and tell a story. All the speakers managed to come up with something about their country and event. Evaluator Jacqui was impressed with the stories told and reminded speakers to go the full two minutes with their time.

Grammarian Jinny’s word of the day was “resilient” or “resilience” and she reported that several speakers managed to use the word to good effect.

Another excellent invigorating meeting from Spinnaker Toastmasters. If you would like to find out more about how we work and what we do, contact us on spinnaker@toastmasters.org.nz and we’ll get back in touch with you.
