“Boggle” – this was the word of the day for Spinnaker’s 4 May meeting from Grammarian Megan. It means to be startled, frightened, or to hesitate. Most speakers managed to use the word at least once with Albertus taking the cake during Table Topics.
Speech 1 by Katina was a storytelling experience when she was a dog au-pair in London in her younger days. She started off “Did I lock the front door?” and then said it was a question you can’t un-ask yourself. Evaluator Andrew noted that we could all imagine being in this position as it was very engaging and relatable.
Speech 2 by Darrell began “When I take viagra its to keep my whole body upright!” which had us in fits of laughter. Darrell was trying his new-found skill of stand-up comedy after attending a comedy workshop, and he told us he had to unlearn his Toastmaster style of speaking and learn how to deliver one-liners in a stand-up. Evaluator Johanna said that she “felt weird saying the word viagra but that could be my age”.
Speech 3 by Dale was a relection on completing the Presentation Mastery Path, telling us what was involved in the Path, how she tackled each project and gave herself an 8 out of 10 rating.
Below is President Gary presenting Dale with her Certificate of Proficiency from Toastmasters International.
