Annual Business Meeting update

Spinnaker held its annual business meeting on Tuesday 2 May 2023. This meeting is held to present club officer reports, and elect club officers for the next Toastmasters year.

Two speeches were also delivered. First up was Dave with “Reflections”, a valedictory speech as he is leaving the area for good but will continue as an online member of our club for a while. Dave reflected on his Toastmasters journey here at Spinnaker and the successes he’s achieved.

Next was Ian with “Riverlink”, a speech about the new project starting up in Hutt City designed to revitalise the city, river, people and identity of Lower Hutt. He said Riverlink was a collection of projects including urban revitalisation, flood protection and transportation improvements. And yes, a few orange cones may be seen from time to time!

Club officer reports were presented at the annual business meeting chaired by Katina. She reflected on the amazing success of our members with the club achieving 8 goals on the Distinguished Club Programme, including a number of high level Pathway project completions. She thought that members had made concerted efforts to become familiar with Pathways online, and this showed in the level of expertise and achievement of numerous educational awards.

Katina also commented on the support from the entire club in running the recent Speechcraft course, and how our club produces formidable contestants in the club and area contests.

The new committee for the 2023-24 Toastmasters year beginning on 1 July is:

President – Angela
VP Education – Ron
VP Membership – vacant
VP Public Relations – Dale
Treasurer – Megan
Secretary – Kathy
Sergeant at Arms – Dirk

Congratulations to the new committee under Angela’s leadership.
