A Message from Helen Cartmell, Division J, 1 July 2025:

It was wonderful to hear the news from Toastmasters International in the United States, that Fazla Dulficar, who is a member of Hutt Valley Toastmasters in Division J, has won the Region 12 quarterfinals and is now through to the semi-finals of the World Championship of Public Speaking to be held in Philadelphia in August 2025.

Fazla is the first woman from the whole of New Zealand to achieve this level of success, and the first person in District 72 to do so. Those of you who were fortunate enough to witness Fazla winning the D72 International Speech contest at Parliament on 11 May this year will know that this success is well-deserved. Fazla worked on her speech from club level to District with determination and dedication – through sheer hard work and practice. For those who think they can never reach such a level, Fazla has shown that, with these qualities, it can be done.

Again, what fantastic news and what an amazing achievement. Well done, Fazla.
