Congratulations to Dale Hartle who has completed all the Level 1 projects in the Visionary Communication Pathway and received her certificate from President Dieter.

This Level comprised the following projects:
- Giving a table topic speech
- An icebreaker speech
- A speech with a purpose
- A speech using vocal variety and body language
- Two speeches comprising the first speech with feedback, then a second speech applying that feedback
- Evaluating another speaker
- Completing two meeting roles – Ah-Counter and Timer.
Level 1 in any path is designed to help you learn key speaking skills through various speech projects and meeting roles. These experiences help you feel more confident and give you a better understanding of the Toastmasters journey.
Meeting roles are part of the Pathways experience because they help you grow as a leader and speaker. The skills you learn from completing roles support your work in speeches and projects. Toastmasters founder, Dr. Ralph C. Smedley, believed that good speakers are also good listeners, helpful evaluators, and strong leaders. By taking on meeting roles, you practice different areas of communication. This includes giving helpful feedback, managing time, and leading discussions. These skills will support you in becoming a better speaker and help you lead in Toastmasters and beyond. Your active participation will also improve the meeting experience for your club and fellow members.
The Timer role teaches time management, while being the Ah-Counter sharpens your listening skills, and serving as an Evaluator builds feedback and analysis abilities.
Various resources are available to assist with these projects:
- Tutorials
- Scripts and logs
- Description of meeting roles
You are provided with a checklist to keep track of your progress, and you can record your thoughts as reflections on how you went, and the feedback you received. You can also upload your meeting agendas, speech notes, evaluations and logs to your Resources section for safekeeping.
When you have completed all the requirements, you request approval from the Base Camp Manager (usually the Education Vice President) who checks everything and makes the approval. Emails are sent by Toastmasters International confirming the approval, and you can then download and print your own certificate for presentation at the next meeting.
It’s great to celebrate your successes with the club and be recognised for your achievements.
Once you have completed a level, you can move on to the next level and start working on the next batch of projects to challenge and improve your speaking and leadership skills.
