Rainbows and unicorns

Ron chaired Spinnaker’s 5 September meeting with the theme “rainbows and unicorns”. He managed to pepper the meeting segments with humorous and interesting quotes and information about rainbows and unicorns.

Grammarian Lin chose “quirky” as her word of the day, and many of the speakers managed to get the word in at least once in their speeches.

Table Topics by Megan had quirky topics to be debated: Potato vs Kumara; Dining at home vs going out to a restaurant; online shopping vs instore shopping. Evaluator Mike thought it was a quirky take on table topics, being engaging, dynamic and interesting.

Speaker 1 was Angela with “The Alien”, a humorous speech about her alien – aka her husband, and how they got stopped by a policeman one day in his quirky car.

Speaker 2 from Darrell entitled “The Golden Tongues Stand-up, the inappropriate version” began with “I am a foundation baby boomer, I’m so old!” Darrell then lightened the evening with a humorous speech which was relatable and amusing according to evaluator Kathy.

Jacqui was Speaker 3 with “Porirua Stream”, a passionate speech about her research, observations and opinions on the state of the Porirua Stream. She then invited the audience for questions, which she ably answered.

Speaker 4 was Gary with “Three little words”. Gary talked about not delaying the things you want to do now, “just do it”. He challenged us when going to sleep tonight that if there was something we wanted to do, then just do it!

General evaluator Katina gave a comprehensive round-up of her observations on the conduct of the meeting and offered advice for future evaluators.
